"Thames River" Wikipedia (via DBPedia)
The Thames is a major river flowing through southern England. While best known because its lower reaches flow through central London, the river flows through several other towns and cities, including Oxford, Reading and Windsor. The river gives its name to the Thames Valley, a region of England centred around the river between Oxford and West London, the Thames Gateway, the area centred around the tidal Thames, and the Thames Estuary to the east of London.

The UK River Thames is a thriving waterway for container ships, commercial boats and also tourism. It is now clean enough to be home to salmon fish (after a break of 200 years) and there are many species of fish and mammals living in there. The Thames also feed extensive areas of marshland which are very important habitats. It may be muddy...but us Londoners love it!!

Military helicopter aircrew are required to be familiar with flying in complex airspace and this is afforded by the Heathrow and London area. When there is other landing traffic at City or Heathrow the helicopters are required to hold their position until it is clear to proceed. It is safer to fly an orbit than to hover in case of an engine failure. There are also several places that they are required to land in the Thames area as well. Hope this helps!

I'm sure you could drown eventually even if you were a strong swimmer, but I think it's more likely that you'd freeze to death or you'd get poisoned first.
