Not a good impression - if I know what happens at the end. He's copied it from a movie I saw. It's a snake and it bites people. That's what the spectacled band was. He wore it around his head like a pair of glasses and then it bit people he looked at. I reckon Sherlock Holmes had watched that Harry Potter movie and thought he'd try the same idea, just he didn't think that many people would have seen the same movie.

Miss Helen Stoner goes to the consulting detective Sherlock Holmes about her ill-tempered and immensely strong stepfather, Dr. Grimesby Roylott, who has required her to move into a particular room of his ancestral home, Stoke Moran. The room has some very odd features, including a bed bolted to the floor. It is also the room that Stoner's sister had slept in before she died under suspicious circumstances. A number of other details about the case are quite mysterious. There is the low whistling sound sometimes heard late at night. There is the strange metallic clank. There is the strange bell cord that doesn't seem to work any bell. There are also Miss Stoner's sister's dying words about a "speckled band." Stoner surmises that her sister might have been referring to the Gypsies whom Dr. Roylott permits to live on the grounds, which are patrolled by a baboon and a cheetah. After arranging for Miss Stoner to spend the night elsewhere, Holmes and Watson contrive to be in Miss Stoner's room that night without her stepfather's knowledge. Holmes believes that he has already deduced the solution to the mystery, and this test of his theory turns out to be successful. They hear the strange whistle, and Holmes sees what the bell cord is really for, although Watson doesn't. Within minutes, the whole mystery is explained, and the villain pays dearly for his crime. The story is marred somewhat by some scientific blunders. There is, in fact, no such snake as an Indian swamp adder. Furthermore, snakes are deaf, although sensitive to ground vibration, thus it is impossible to signal a snake with sound as depicted in the novel. It also suggests that baboons are native to India, which they are not

well, for the part right before they find out what the speckled band is, you could use the famous Jaws music. i think a spoof of that would be rather amusing, by the way.
