Pencil

"Pencil" Wikipedia (via DBPedia)

A pencil is a writing implement or art medium usually constructed of a narrow, solid pigment core inside a protective casing. The case prevents the core from breaking, and also from marking the user’s hand during use. Pencils create marks via physical abrasion, leaving behind a trail of solid core material that adheres to a sheet of paper or other surface. They are noticeably distinct from pens, which dispense liquid or gel ink that stain the light colour of the paper. Most pencil cores are made of graphite mixed with a clay binder, leaving grey or black marks that can be easily erased. Graphite pencils are used for both writing and drawing, and the result is durable: although writing can usually be removed with an eraser, it is resistant to moisture, most chemicals, ultraviolet radiation and natural aging. Other types of pencil core are less widely used. Charcoal pencils are mainly used by artists for drawing and sketching. Coloured pencils are sometimes used by teachers or editors to correct submitted texts but are more usually regarded as art supplies, especially those with waxy core binders that tend to smear on paper instead of erasing. Grease pencils have a softer crayon-like waxy core that can leave marks on smooth surfaces such as glass or porcelain. The most common type of pencil casing is a thin wooden cylinder permanently bonded around the core. Similar permanent casings may be constructed of other materials such as plastic or paper. To use the pencil, the casing must be carved or peeled off to expose the working end of the core as a sharp point. Mechanical pencils have more elaborate casings that support mobile pieces of pigment core, which can be extended or retracted through the casing tip as needed. more »

Pencils...?

Most pencils have six sides. If you cut one across and look at the end, it is shaped like a hexagon. There are three reasons for this. First, it is cheaper to make pencils with six sides because more pencils can be made from the same amount of wood. The wood that could make eight round pencils can be made into nine hexagonal ones. Two other reasons for hexagonal pencils: They are less likely to roll off a desk than round ones, and easier to sharpen than square ones. The eraser has to be short or it would break off.

liquid or pencil?

Pencil in black. If you accidentally smudge liquid during the day, it leaves a huge smear. And when you try to get rid of that smear, it messes the rest of your eye makeup. Whereas with pencil you can erase it away with the smudger that comes on the end of the pencil.

Pencil history http://www.pencils.com/pencil-history http://www.officemuseum.com/pencil_history.htm pencil core is made of lead base, or now graphite, even charcoal, mixed with binder like clay as glue, used to mark surfaces, more so on paper, the lead core now has a wood cover to hold lead in place, as it is brittle, and keeps lead/ graphite from rubbing off on hands, as you scribe or etch lines and marker, the graphite leaves a trace of lead dust on surface of paper, that being dark, becomes legible to read visually, usually held in hand with thumb and index finger, ..

A graphite pencil is one of the most common pencils used by artist. They are used for sketching and projects. When you say Turquoise Pencils, I looked at the site you linked and it says Turquoise "Graphite" Pencils, so it is a graphite pencil, when it says "turquoise", its just a sub-brand part of the prismacolor pencils. I read the description that says that those pencils are high-quality graphite pencils. So if you want graphite pencils go for those they sound good. The ones I use are KIMBERLY graphite pencils you can check it out if you want http://www.generalpencil.com/gpc_products_graphite.html Whoops sorry if I wrote too much just wanted to help you but anyway but yah, you are at a good start right now, keep it up!

Pencils have been painted yellow ever since the 1890s. And that bright color isn't just so you can find them on your desk more easily! During the 1800s, the best graphitei in the world came from China. American pencil makers wanted a special way to tell people that their pencils contained Chinese graphite. In China, the color yellow is associated with royalty and respect. American pencil manufacturers began painting their pencils bright yellow to communicate this "regal" feeling and association with China. The rest, as they say, is history. EDIT Hey BrookeN....please reference the source below, ahhhhhh.....http://www.pencils.com I'm not bright enough to make up the word "graphitei".
