Reality check. The philippines has good sound laws but corrupt political influences always delay the implementation of these laws. By the time these laws are enforced, they become so obsolete that another law must be passed (just like the politicians who regularly pass gas - i.e. fart through their mouth).

In conservative minds there is a stark distinction between charity and entitlement. Most American conservatives are religious, and many devoutly so. In Christianity, charity is a vitally important virtue. Engaging in charitable acts is one of the ways to get into heaven. Paying your taxes, some of which go to helping the poor, isn't charity, it's not a personal virtue, it's just compliance with the law. So, while many conservatives are all for charity, they're not at all for /government mandated/ charity, which sucks all the soul-saving virtue out of it. Non-religious conservatives, yes, can just be selfish bastards, but, hey, we have a right to be selfish bastards, it's a free country! "people saying that I'm a socialist. Honestly, that isn’t true since I am a hard-line Catholic, I go to church every week, I oppose abortion in all cases, and I support the 2nd amendment. " None of that's actually incompatible with being a socialist (guns aren't 'means of production,' well, unless you're a hunter, I suppose). You couldn't be Stalinist, sure, since you're religious, but you could be just as socialist as you like - and, given your admiration of socialist policies in Europe, and tendency to judge a society by it's degree of egalitarianism, you probably are at least a bit socialist.

He's not old-school conservative. People created a new term for "conservatives" like him: Neo-conservative, aka "Neo-con"
